It is one of the main summer resorts in northern Italy. ==History== At 5 June 1953, the first tractor begin to ride the dunes of the pine forest marking the first streets of ''Lignano Pineta''. Lignano Pineta originated through the initiative of a group of local entrepreneurs, who realize an innovative development project in a spiral shape designed by architect Marcello D'Olivo.
